The Berlin Music Commission called for applications for the 14th edition of the cross-genre listen to berlin compilation. Our selected jury of music experts then chose the tracks for this year’s listen to berlin 2021/22 compilation in a jury meeting.
At the listen to berlin: Awards on 26.10.2021 three of the artists were awarded with the jury prize. Congratulations to AŸA, Caxxianne und Maury111!
The listen to berlin: Awards see themselves as a predicate for remarkable achievements in the Berlin music industry. Since 2017, the Berlin Music Commission has been awarding the prizes independently of commercial considerations and focuses on the multi-faceted nature of the industry. They highlight special people, artists* and projects and present them to a broad public during the award ceremony.

The listen to berlin Compilation is a space for experimentation. It is open to all genres and styles and is not satisfied with the ordinary. It wants to be unadjusted and unconventional, innovative and progressive. Artists featured on the compilation in the past include Bonaparte, Catnapp, SIND, Alin Coen, uon, We Will Kaleid, VALENTIN, Breezy, DJ İpek İpekçioğlu, Sookee, Brand Brauer Frick, Niconé, Oliver Koletzki, Alice Phoebe Lou, Kat Frankie, Get Well Soon und Moderat.
beyond genre
Good music knows no genre boundaries. Berlin doesn’t either. Whether afrobeats, experimental electronica, funk and soul music, rap, hip-hop, jazz, reggaeton, pop indie sounds or droning rock – the sound of the city is versatile. We are looking for a cross-section of the most innovative and exciting music of the future: a soundtrack for a diverse city.

The Compilation is curated by a jury of experts from various sectors of the Berlin music industry. This years jury members were Edoardo Rossi (Wolfpack Entertainment), İpek İpekçioğlu, Maureen Mutheu (Songversations), Nadine Lange (Tagesspiegel), Thomas Morr (Morr Music), Olaf Kretschmar (Berlin Music Commission eG) and Yasmine Gallus (Budde Music).

The Artists
Submission Criteria:
- Submissions can be made by bands, musicians, labels, producers or publishers. The artists themselves must live in Berlin.
- The recording must be mixed and ready for release (no demos!).
- No cover.
The mastering will be done by the Berlin Music Commission. - The submitted track is previously unreleased and a physical or digital release is not planned before 26.10.2021.
- Both label and non-label acts are welcome, but no major label acts.
- Rights holders must provide the license free of charge (GEMA fees will be covered by the BMC).
- Artists / bands already featured on the listen to berlin Compilation 2020/21 cannot be considered for the current call. Gladly again next year!
Each submission must include the following material:
- Music recording as a SoundCloud link or MP3 (320 kbps, max. 5 min./track).
- Track info: Artist, music title, creator (composer, lyricist, arranger, producer), track length, planned release date.
- Names and contact details of all rights owners.
Please submit only one track per application!
Application deadline is 03.06.2021.
