About the Awards.

The listen to berlin: Awards are intended to recognise remarkable achievements in Berlin’s music industry.

We award the prize independently of commercial considerations and focus on the complexity of our industry network. We highlight special people, artists and projects whose platform we as the Berlin Music Commission see ourselves as.

With the award, we show the sparkling stars in Berlin’s music universe and present them to a broad public within the framework of the award ceremony.

The listen to berlin: Awards 2019 were presented on 5 November 2019 at a festive and exclusive gala in the Kesselhaus and also marked the start of the MOST WANTED: MUSIC Convention, which took place from 6 to 7 November 2019 in the Alte Münze.

The award ceremony is also a platform for exchange, networking and cooperation between experienced industry representatives and committed young actors.

The listen to berlin: Awards are the music prize of the state of Berlin and are awarded to Berlin-based players in the music industry.

The selection process.

The Submissions

From 28 August to 15 September 2019, selected representatives of the Berlin music industry will nominate important players and initiatives of the capital for the shortlist of the listen to berlin: Awards.

Awards will be given to people, initiatives and companies that make Berlin – on a daily basis and for future generations – a special and important music location. The listen to berlin: Awards are a prize from the scene for the scene.

Submissions that have no Berlin or music connection, an obviously racist and/or discriminatory background or content will not be considered. The jury members of this year’s award, the board of directors as well as employees of the BMC office can also not be considered for the selection.

The decision

The listen to berlin: Awards JURY 2019 will review and evaluate all submissions for the shortlist.

Each jury member has the opportunity to select three favourites per category. In the joint jury session, the highest rated proposals will be discussed and negotiated together. Criteria such as diversity, gender distribution, social and political commitment can be taken into account in the decision-making process.

The jury is given a lot of leeway in decision-making in order to be able to react to current situations and to give the award a special signature.

Three nominees and one winner in each of 7 categories will emerge from the jury meeting.
